Selangor Launches Free Bus Services in Three Local Councils

SHAH ALAM: Commuters in major townships in Selangor now have a new way to travel following the introduction of free a bus services by the state government.

The service, called the "Bas Selangorku", is made available beginning July 1 in three local councils in Selangor.

The councils are Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Klang Municipal Council (MPK).

The bus will be operational from 6am to 10pm daily with a frequency of 15 minutes.

Selangor executive councillor for transportation Datuk Teng Chang Khim said the route was focused on public areas such as commercial and government offices.

He said the service was aimed to encourage the public to rely on the public transportation and reduce traffic in the city.

"We believe that the introduction of the free service will increase the number of people using public trasportation," he told a press conference at the launching of the service at the Shah Alam Komuter Station here.

He said such service would be expanded to other areas in Selangor if the feedback from the public was positive.

"We have plans to expand the service to the Kajang and Ampang Jaya Municipal Councils within this year," he said.

"The service is currently concentrated in urban areas where traffic is a problem. We will increase the number of routes in the future," he added.

A total of three buses would be operating in MPK, four in MBSA and four in MPSJ along a route of 8.5km, 20.2km and 15.5km respectively.
